The Brief

Northpoint Geotechnical, a specialist engineering firm, was constrained by a legacy WordPress website suffering from critical technical failures, toxic backlinks, and poor Core Web Vitals. More importantly, the digital presence was misaligned with their commercial ambitions, attracting low-value residential enquiries rather than their target market.

My primary objective was to execute a complete platform migration and rebuild the website from scratch. This strategic overhaul was designed to replace their legacy environment with a scalable, high-performance digital foundation capable of supporting the brand's wider commercial growth and acquisition goals.

The Implementation

To facilitate this commercial pivot, I engineered a complete end-to-end rebuild, migrating the brand to a high-performance Squarespace environment. Rather than a simple aesthetic refresh, the 110-hour project was rooted in a strict "quality-first" technical roadmap where I operated across multiple digital disciplines to deliver an enterprise-grade platform.

1. Systems Architecture & Technical Rescue: The legacy site suffered from diluted page authority and tracking blind spots. Acting as the systems architect, I conducted a comprehensive diagnostic audit and designed a streamlined information architecture (IA). I then mapped and executed a rigorous 301 redirect strategy, retiring low-value pages and channelling existing equity directly into core "money pages," such as the Phase 1 Desk Study and Remediation services. To ensure pristine data capture without the bloat of a heavy tag manager, I deployed a lightweight GA4 integration via native APIs.

2. Performance Engineering & Re-platforming: Enterprise clients expect a frictionless, premium digital experience. Translating technical SEO requirements into a responsive design, I completely rebuilt the platform from the ground up. I manually resized and compressed high-res assets into modern formats (WebP), reducing page weight by over 300KB per page. By hard-coding image attributes and disabling resource-heavy background effects, I resolved severe Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) issues. I executed a complete editorial overhaul of the core service pages, elevating the tone to emphasise regulatory alignment, nationwide reach, and sector credibility. To satisfy strict enterprise procurement standards, I engineered an SEO-optimised "Accreditations" architecture that prominently surfaced vital industry badges (RISQS, Constructionline Gold, BGA). Furthermore, I integrated localised, high-profile case studies to reinforce market authority and satisfy Google’s rigorous E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) signals.

4. Accelerated Indexing Strategy: To protect the domain's search equity during the complex migration, I engineered a proactive indexing protocol. I refactored the entire image delivery system, replacing invisible background images with semantic <img> tags, keyword-rich filenames, and descriptive Alt Text. Upon executing the seamless DNS cutover, I leveraged a "horizontal linking" strategy to bridge crawler access directly to deep-content pages. This technical intervention guaranteed immediate discoverability, resulting in 100% of the site's service, location, and case study pages being successfully indexed by Google within 72 hours of launch.
